A Nautical Nursery

I'm excited to share a peek into Deacon's nursery! He slept in a rock-n-play next to my bed for the first few months after he was born so I wasn't rushed finishing his nursery. Plus, we first had to move the twins out of the nursery into their new bedroom. ( Everyone always tells you how fast times goes and then you blink and your baby is a toddler) It easily brings tears to my eyes to see all my babies already so grown up.

When I was designing Deacon's nursery I knew I wanted the deep-sea feel to it. I've always had a love for the ocean and how calming it can be. And lets face it, with the twins just about to turn two anything calming was appealing back then. I was inspired by so many different things when it came to the over all design, so I'm thankful for the help I had from a stylist at Anthony And Stork making some final decisions.
The Donald Duck art work is a vintage print my mama handed down to me for the nursery when I decided on a nautical theme. Which couldn't be more perfect for his room.
I knew I wanted nautical touches through out, but not too cutesy like. A friend showed me the idea of the hanging fish in the picture above. It's definitely one of the cheapest pieces of decor in his room and was so easy to make!

I wanted Deacon's nursery to be a peaceful place for him to fall asleep, unlike the rest of the house and a little less cluttered with toys. It gave the room a more clean, sophisticated look with everything tucked away in baskets but still allowed him to easily get his toys out and play.

The porthole mirror and ship wheel were the perfect added touches. I liked the idea of sea animals, and fish accents to give it a younger appeal. The Terry Fan Whale Art was a must have. I knew it could easily grow with him. I went with such a bold rug for the pop of color, and the chevron pattern resembled waves of the ocean.

In this picture, Deacon and I are reading his BookWhat Little Boys Are Made Of  my mom got him before he was even born and I will love reading it to him for years to come. It's hard to believe he's already a year old! The rocking chair is an antique and was handed down to us. I felt it was important to have a larger piece of furniture in the nursery where we could all snuggle up comfortably together since the twins come in every morning to hang out as well!
